Competitor analysis that maps the landscape with precision.
Most businesses have a sense of who their competitors are. Far fewer understand how those competitors are positioning themselves, where they are vulnerable, and what space is genuinely available to own.
Competitor analysis closes that gap — replacing a mental list of rivals with a precise map of the competitive landscape.
How each competitor presents itself, the claims it makes, the audiences it targets, and the ground it's trying to hold. Laid out side by side, the market's positioning patterns become visible — including the claims everyone is making, which by definition differentiate no one.
Where competitors are stretched, inconsistent, or complacent. A brand promising more than it delivers, a positioning that hasn't kept up with its own market, a customer base showing signs of restlessness. These are the openings positioning strategy is built on.
The territory no one is credibly occupying. Every market has gaps — needs underserved, audiences overlooked, positions unclaimed. The analysis identifies which of those spaces are genuinely available, and which of them the business can credibly take and hold.
The output is a precise map of the competitive landscape and a clear view of the position worth taking. Built on the foundation of market research, it directly shapes the messaging and brand roadmap that follow.
When it's needed
Competitor analysis matters most when the competitive picture is changing: a new entrant taking share, an established rival repositioning, or a market consolidating around fewer, larger players.
It's equally valuable before a positioning decision — a rebrand, a new market entry, a shift in strategy. Committing to a position without knowing what surrounds it is how businesses end up fighting for ground that was never worth holding.
Most positioning mistakes aren't bad ideas. They're good ideas aimed at ground someone else already holds.
The strongest position is the one a competitor can't easily follow you into.
